The 27-year-old was omitted from Spain’s squad for their 2-0 victory over Georgia on Saturday and has now been released from national team duty, as he is not expected to regain full fitness in time for their upcoming match on Tuesday.
After the match, De La Fuente confirmed that Olmo had been released from the national team following a thorough assessment of his condition.
"Dani was in perfect condition; there was no medical report, and he simply had a minor discomfort,” the 64-year-old read.
“He hadn't trained all week, thinking his progress would be better, but eventually the discomfort worsened, and we decided, for his health and safety, that he should leave the training camp, knowing that he was unlikely to be back for Tuesday.
“If we had been certain he could be back without risk, as we always do, he would have stayed."
